Drudge mostly skips Schwarzeneggger story

Back in 2003, when Arnold Schwarzenegger was running for governor of California and the accusations of groping and raunchy talk were flying, the Drudge Report was a good place to get caught up on all things related to Terminator’s alleged sex life.

In fact, the first “hit” on Schwarzenegger’s candidacy, as the National Review put it, was a Drudge link to a “Smoking Gun” unearthing of a dirty interview for “Oui” magazine that Schwarzenegger had done in the 1970s.The attention continued, more or less daily, all the way until the election.

It’s quite a contrast to today, when the LA Times broke the bombshell that Schwarzenegger had fathered a love child with an unnamed woman who worked for him, and, as one reader points out, the seemingly made-for-Drudge story is almost nowhere to be found on the site.

(The site did link to a TMZ story about Maria Shriver being unhappy in her marriage and calling Schwarzenegger “unstable” this morning.)

Perhaps that’s because Drudge’s editors consider the story old news. As Los Angeles Magazine pointed out, the Drudge Report was one of a handful of news outlets to pick up a National Enquirer story in 2003 alleging that Schwarzenegger had fathered a love child.

John Cook runs down the questions of whether that alleged love child and the one revealed today are the same.
